Most of our
playing members have been active in Thailand Cricket for the last 4 years at
least. We had been playing for various teams in Bangkok but had become a
little disillusioned by some of the organisation and game day attitudes of
these teams. We got together at the Hua Hin Cricket Sixes last April and,
after a vodka slammer or two, it suddenly dawned on us to start up our own
club that would include our friends from Chiang Mai and Hua Hin, would be
organised and fair for all members, and allow us to play good hard cricket
in an enjoyable environment.
Our most
important decision was, of course, to find suitable clubrooms to facilitate
the age honoured tradition of "a quiet beer after the game" (and after
practise, and after work, and after watching cricket and after... well...
anything!) Steve Hatherell came to the rescue by suggesting that his mate
Rodney from The Green Parrot might be interested in entertaining a bunch of
thirsty broken down old cricketers. And the rest, as they say, is history.
We elected a President and committee, drew up a constitution, secured some
sponsorship and pledged to start a club that would benefit the members,
travel around Asia (Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam and wherever else
will have us) from time to time on "cricket tours" and help out in
developing young Thai cricketers. One of our long term goals is to secure
our own cricket ground in the Bangkok district.
We currently play in the 'A' league of the
Cricket Association of Thailand
(CAT). |
